Devin A. Giordano is an incarcerated writer, journalist, and senior undergraduate student in the Bard Prison Initiative, currently serving a twenty-to-life sentence in the New York State Department of Corrections under the felony murder law.
In his writing, Giordano illuminates the structural contradictions embedded in a system that claims to prioritize rehabilitation while routinely denying the people most transformed by that process any meaningful path toward release. His work sits at the intersection of personal narrative and institutional critique, exploring mental health, the human cost of felony murder, and the gap between what the criminal legal system promises and what it actually delivers to the people living inside it.
Giordano is the co-founder of You Are Not Alone, a nonprofit that originated inside prison as a structured conversation among men seeking to confront violence against women and take genuine accountability for the harm it causes. The organization has since grown into a broader initiative dedicated to reshaping how men understand, engage with, and respond to gender-based violence both inside correctional facilities and in the wider community.
He also served as Chairman of the Lifers and Long-Termers Organization at his last facility, Eastern Correctional Facility, where he developed and facilitated programming centered on education, accountability, and personal growth, and worked as a tutor, mentor, and Youth Assistance Program facilitator for young men navigating the early and most vulnerable years of incarceration.
His writing has appeared in HuffPost, Prism Reports, Inquest, Truthout, The Progressive, and other publications.
